Our duties and responsibilities

Under the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013 James Fluit has duties and obligations relating to how he gives advice. He is required to:

• Ensure you understand the nature and scope of advice you ask him to provide.

• Provide an advice service that is relevant to this scope of advice and suitable to your individual circumstances and needs.

• Listen to your needs, concerns and preferences and treat you fairly and with respect.

• Act with integrity, giving priority to your interests and give advice that is not influenced by his own interests.

• Exercise care, diligence and skill in providing you with advice.

• Meet the necessary standards of competence, knowledge and skill to provide you with the advice you requested.

• Ensure you understand his advice and recommendations and any associated risks.

• Keep you informed through the process, communicating in a timely, clear and effective manner.

Nature and Scope of the Advice

James will provide you with financial advice in relation to any combination of your Personal Insurances, Business Insurances or Health Insurance.

James will provide you with financial advice in relation to selecting an appropriate loan provider and obtaining an approval from your selected provider.

What else we can assist with

We work with several referral partners and can assist with referrals to Accountants, Solicitors, Asset Finance, Investment Advice, Fire & General Insurance Advice and Kiwisaver Advice.

What I cannot assist with

We are unable to offer legal or tax advice, and recommend you consult your solicitor or accountant for this. Any advice we give in relation to Kiwisaver withdrawal for a first home purchase is limited to factual information on what can be withdrawn and the process for this and does not extend to whether or not this is in your best interests.

How Alexis & Co is paid

Alexis & Co do not usually charge a fee for the financial advice provide to you except in particular circumstances. This would be agreed in advance with you in writing. We are remunerated via commission by the relevant product provider when you successfully take one of their products. The commission rates applicable range significantly between product providers. The final payment to Alexis & Co will not be known until James’ advice is successfully implemented. At that point, upon request, James will be able to provide a detailed breakdown of the commission received. Below is a breakdown of potential commission ranges for each provider:

Alexis & Co may also receive a referral fee or commission if you are referred to one of its referral partners. For further information on potential referral fees please ask your adviser.

Conflicts of Interest and Complaints

To assist with managing and potential conflicts of interest Alexis & Co follows a robust advice process. This process ensures that all recommendations made are focused on your goals and personal circumstances. We always strive to recommend the best product for you at the time, regardless of the commission Alexis & Co will receive. The summary of potential commission Alexis & Co may receive from each provider ensures a transparent process. If you are concerned that we have not put your interests first, please let us know and we can discuss James’ recommendation further.

If you wish to make a complaint, in the first instance please contact James directly and he will work with you to resolve it. In the unlikely event you feel he has not been able to satisfactorily resolve your complaint you can escalate the complaint to Alexis & Co’s registered Financial Disputes Resolution Scheme.
